personality
Rimudo is a rather conflicted person. He's in love with the woman who's forced him to accept a destiny that he never wanted, he seeks revenge against his own father, and similarly, he acts like a jerk even though he's really one of the most kind people in the series. Rimudo is honestly somewhat prickly. The times where he acts his age -- immature and carefree -- are few and far in between. Most of the time, he is calm and collected to the point where it's chilling and is quick to say harsh words if that's what he feels is best. After all, here is someone who was incredibly eager to abandon the girl who would later become the love of his life at the beginning of the series once she'd outlived her usefulness to him at that point in time, asking her if she'd like to be the 1,001st person to be killed by him.
Watase calls Rimudo a "cat type", whereas she calls Tamahome a "dog type". This comparison could not be more correct. Tamahome is someone who is always in action -- fighting to protect those he loves with a lot of passion and great loyalty. Rimudo is the exact opposite. It takes a long time for him to warm up to somebody (much like a cat) and even after he's sworn himself to them, his involvement with them is on his terms, not theirs.
Despite this, Rimudo remains a fairly likeable character. At least, enough that he won first place in the Fushigi Yuugi character popularity poll, even beating out fan favorite Nuriko. He has, of course, laid his life on the line for Takiko more than once and even though she constantly says that he is difficult to grasp, Rimudo slowly becomes easier to understand as the series goes on. He is pretty similar to Tooya of Ayashi no Ceres in personality, but with a little more childish playfulness.
